To give you a flavour of our Club, here are some of the activities that we have been involved in this year. For last year go to:
Another fun evening with our Woolwich friends. We managed to win our "home leg " but it is the taking part that counts!
A fun evening with our friends at Woolwich. We managed to win this "away leg" but Woolwich will be out for revenge when they visit us on the 17th February for our "home leg".
We collected over £300 for Help for Heroes. Thanks very much to the people of Eltham for your generosity.
Club members rattled their buckets to collect money for Greenwich Women's Aid before our Santa and members took part in the big parade to celebrate the lighting up of Eltham's Christmas lights. We'll be back next year!
President Kevin and other members of the Club took part in the march from the Conservative Club down the town to Eltham’s War Memorial. Wreaths were laid in memory of past and present fallen service men and women of United Kingdom and throughout the Commonwealth.
Eight members of the club enjoyed another excellent Conference at Eastbourne. On Friday we all waved our Union flags at 'The Last Night of the Proms' and on Saturday we had dinner at an Italian restaurant followed by dancing the night away!
Several members enjoyed a tour around the Olympic site in East London followed by a substantial, delicious Caribbean lunch.
Kevin gave a very informative and moving talk about his nursing role in Camp Bastian, Afghanistan. We were joined by some members of Woolwich and Chislehurst Rotary Clubs, plus other guests.
Once again the face painting crew of Eltham Phoenix joined in with the staff and fundraisers from GBCH at their annual Teddy Bears Picnic. We painted around 70 little faces during the afternoon, including lots of butterflies, spidermen and tigers! Real teamwork was again displayed by Eltham Phoenix and we can be proud in our part of a successful day. Watch this space for photos and for the amount raised for the Hospice
As we had no meeting, several members visited 'The Tailor's Chalk' in Sidcup for their Curry Night. Various curries were consumed, together with vast quantities of naan bread, poppadums and mango chutney. It was a very good evening.
We had over 20 people turn out to welcome in our new President, Kevin Till, and his team at Sophie's Choice Restaurant, Sidcup. A fun evening with plenty of food and drink was had by all, with some relevant music. Outgoing President, Carol Ravenscroft, gave a short presentation on the highlights of her year in office and handed a cheque for £1,200 to the Alzheimer's Society. She also presented both Colin & Sally Knox and Barry & Margaret Mizen with Rotary Community Service awards, plus handed over cheques for £100 each to their respective foundations.
