Rotary Stroke Awareness Day - Saturday, 15th May 2010

We held this year's event at Marks & Spencer's in Eltham High Street from 11am to 3pm. Many thanks to Kevin and his staff for all their assistance and all our volunteer nurses.

 

 

 

Quiz Night in aid of the Alzheimer's Society - Friday, 11th June 2010

We held another great quiz night at Sidcup Working Men's Club with a fish & chip supper. We raised in excess of £400.

 

 

 

 

 

Greenwich Women's Aid Refuge Opening - Friday, 11th June 2010

President Carol attended the opening of a new refuge in Greenwich and was pleased to see one of our Essentials boxes on each bed to welcome new arrivals.

 

 

Raid Night - Thursday, 6th May 2010

We were pleased to welcome 48 Rotarians & guests from local Rotary Clubs to hear our excellent speaker Fraser McColl from the Lotus Children's Foundation Trust tell us about his time as a volunteer with street children in Mongolia. President Carol presented him with £200 from the raffle that evening. We also presented Barbara and Poppy from Greenwich Women's Aid with 30 Essentials Boxes as part of our ongoing work with them.

 

 

Curry & Quiz Night in aid of the Alzheimer's Society - Friday, 26th February 2010

Over 100 people packed into the hall to join us for a very successful evening of questions and curry. Final figures are not yet in but we estimate well over £700 was raised. The event was so popular we will holding another one soon!

 

 

 

Induction of New Members - Thursday, 18th February 2010

President Carol inducted three new members into the club - Sinead O'Reilly-Butt, Faisal Butt and William Vargas Abella. She then presented DG Euan Eddie with the money raised at the Frugal Meal.

 

 

Frugal Meal in aid of DG's Water Aid Project in Burkina Faso - Thursday, 21st January 2010

On a cold evening we all enjoyed homemade hot soup and bread followed by some cup cakes. We raised just over £192 for the Water Aid Project

 

Christmas Collections - Saturdays, 5th and 12th December 2009

We collected in Passey Place, Eltham for the President's charities with the man in the red suit.

 

Greenwich Women's Aid Children's Christmas Party - Saturday, 28th November 2009

We held our now annual party for GWA for all the children. There was lots of yummy food, presents and, of course, a visit from the man in the red suit... All the children and their mums thoroughly enjoyed that disco and karaoke from Jo at Going-4a-Song.

 

Presentation of Musical Therapy Equipment to Demelza Hospice Care for Children - Thursday, 26th November 2009

The club presented a selection of instruments for music therapy to the new Demelza Children’s Hospice in Eltham. The money, totalling over £2500, was raised from various street collections, face-painting, a couple of fairs and a sponsored 10km run over the past few years. The club has set aside some monies for any future replacements. Members joined Music Therapist Claire and Deputy Manager Kathy plus several children and their carers for an hour of music and fun on the evening of 26 November. We also had a tour of the facilities.

 

 

Fundraising Evening in aid of Greenwich Women's Aid - Tuesday, 24th November 2009

Club members were joined by friends and fellow Rotarians for an evening of belly dancing, jewellery and candles which helped raise funds for the Children's Christmas party. Many thanks to Barbara (candles), Yola (jewellery) and Jezebel (belly dancer) for their contributions.

 

 

 

Eltham Lights Up - Thursday, 19th November 2009

Club members rattled their buckets to collect money for the Alzheimer's Society before our Santa and members took part in the big parade to celebrate the lighting up of Eltham's Christmas lights.  We'll be back next year!

 

Remembrance Day Parade - Sunday, 8th November 2009

President Carol and other members of the Club took part in the march from the Conservative Club down the town to Eltham’s War Memorial. Wreaths were laid in memory of past and present fallen service men and women of United Kingdom and throughout the Commonwealth.

 

Conference @ Brighton - 23rd - 25th October 2009

Members attended this year's excellent Conference and has a great time.

 

 

Alzheimer's London Memory Walk - Sunday, 20th September 2009

President Carol walked 10 miles alongside the Thames and raised £300 towards to her charity.

 

 

Catford's BBQ - Sunday, 6th September 2009

Several members joined Catford for their 3rd Annual BBQ with the Holy Smokers!

 

 

Party Night @ The Hollies - Saturday, 5th September 2009

Several members joined the President and her Secretary/Husband at their home for an evening of socialising and food, including Wendy's bottomless trifle!

 

 

WaterAid collection - Thursday, 3rd September 2009

Over the last couple of months, members have been filling Jars of Change for Jars of Water. International Chairman Barbara has now counted and banked the cash! Just over £30 was collected in small change.

 

 

Presentation to Rotary Jaipur Limb - Thursday, 20th August 2009

PP Peter Green presented a cheque to PDG Clive Addis Jones from his Round Britain Bike Ride in 2008. Clive and Peter are pictured holding an example of the limb.

 

 

Club Social Night - Thursday, 30th July 2009

As we had no meeting, several members visited 'The Tailor's Chalk' in Sidcup for their Curry Night. Various curries were consumed, together with vast quantities of naan bread, poppadums and mango chutney. It was a very good evening.

 

   

 

 

Club Handover Night - Monday, 29th June 2009

We had 23 people turn out to welcome in our new President, Carol Ravenscroft, and her team at Sophie's Choice Restaurant, Sidcup. A fun evening with plenty of food and drink was had by all, to the music of Abba and The Beatles.Outgoing President, Peter Green, gave a short presentation on the highlights of his year in office and handed a cheque for £120 to Denis Delaroute from local charity, Reinstate. He also presented Jim Bennett, Chief Executive of Greenwich and Bexley Cottage Hospice with one of Rotary’s highest awards, a Paul Harris Fellowship Award
