We are working closely with Women's Aid and a local refuge. All refuges have one thing in common ... women and children who have been displaced as a result of domestic violence or dispute; often leaving in the middle of the night with nothing but the clothes they are wearing.
We have a scheme to provide an "Essentials Box" to each person entering the refuge. A very simple idea: take a shoe box, cover the box and lid separately with wrapping paper, and fill the box with some essential items for both the women and children (in separate boxes). These boxes will be given to the local refuge and used all year round when women and children arrive. The aim is to give them something that is theirs ... soap, flannel, body lotions, perfumes, make-up, note pads, pens, mugs, puzzle books, playing cards...
It's something small but very worthwhile. If you feel you are able to help by providing any of the above (especially any unwanted Christmas presents) or if you have any hotel hospitality sets (shampoo, shower gel, sewing kits, etc) that you don't know what to do with ... or even if you have any spare shoe boxes that we can use then please contact us.
