The Rotary Club of Eltham was chartered in 1934. In 1999 they were unable to continue and unfortunately had to fold.
The concept of the Rotary Club of Eltham Phoenix was conceived at the Rotaract District 1120 Handover Banquet in a pigsty at the Rare Breed Centre, near Ashford, in July 2000. Several Rotaractors felt that they had nowhere else to go after reaching 30. The name of Eltham Phoenix was suggested as a way of continuing the work undertaken by the Rotary Club of Eltham in the local community whilst showing that this was a new club. The first meeting took place on 31st January 2001 and after introducing other non-Rotaract friends the Inaugural meeting was held in April 2002. The former members of the Rotary Club of Eltham presented the club with their regalia, which we are proud to wear with a sense of history and continuity.
At present we are meeting weekly for dinner at 'Sophie's Choice', 149 Station Road, Sidcup DA15 7AA
